The Phillies fell back to mediocrity after 1983 for many years.

In 1993, the Philadelphia Phillies began and finished the year impressively. They made it to the World Series but lost to reigning Toronto Blue Jays in six games. The Phillies performance as well as attendance suffered in1994.
